The World Squash Level-2 Coaching Course successfully concluded this morning (Sunday, April 28, 2026) at the Army Squash Complex in Dhaka Cantonment. The Honorable Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr. Aminul Haque, attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and distributed certificates and awards among the participants. The event was presided over by Major General Hasan-uz-Zaman, NDU, AFWC, PSC. Also in attendance were the General Secretary and members of the Executive Committee, invited guests, and squash players. Expressing great satisfaction with the overall organization and the standard of the game, the Honorable Minister shared his vision of expanding squash to the school level. He also assured necessary cooperation regarding hiring high-quality foreign coaches. This international squash coaching course had been underway in Bangladesh since April 20th. Alongside the Army Squash Complex, sessions were also conducted at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and Bashundhara Sports City. Approved by the World Squash Federation (WSF) and the Asian Squash Federation (ASF), the six-day Level-2 course brought together Level-1 certified coaches from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. The course concluded through a simple yet elegant ceremony. Due to current circumstances, two coaches from Iran were unable to participate. Notably, all participating foreign students are international-standard squash players who actively coach at various levels both at home and abroad. The course was conducted under the supervision of Malaysia's renowned squash personality, Coach Subramaniam, and was meticulously coordinated and facilitated by two trainers from BKSP alongside Bangladesh’s only Level-2 coach, Fazle Wahed Ahmed. Participants included Bangladeshi female coach Marjan Monica (Independent University), Raju (American Club), Suman (Uttara Club), Saju (BKSP), Rafi (Chittagong University), and Rony, Shahadat, and Masum from the Bangladesh Army. International participants included Zulfiqar Ali Khan from Pakistan, Pradeep Malik from India, Yulsan Chan from Hong Kong, and Tiveyan Mohan from Malaysia. Just four to five years ago, squash had practically been forgotten by the people of Bangladesh. Squash courts across district towns, medical colleges, BUET, various universities, five-star hotels like the Sheraton and Sonargaon, tea gardens, and the RDA were either demolished or repurposed into storerooms, gymnasiums, or even residential quarters. However, working tirelessly and uninterruptedly with very limited resources and minimal facilities, the Federation has successfully revived the dying sport over the last five years, playing a crucial role in its promotion, expansion, and development. They have regularly organized national and international tournaments and developed a significant number of young players (both boys and girls), as well as the necessary pool of coaches and referees. Following this momentum, the Squash Federation has already completed numerous domestic training courses. Entirely through their own initiative and funding, they previously conducted three WSF-approved Level-1 coaching courses, producing nearly thirty international-standard coaches. By now successfully organizing and concluding this elite Level-2 coaching course, the Federation has not only built skilled human resources and a sufficient coaching pool to uplift the sport, but has also proven that with goodwill, strong leadership, and proper planning, any sport in Bangladesh can be transformed to trigger a sports revolution.
